May 5: The Senate has approved $330 million in hurricane relief for Gulf Coast colleges and universities by a vote of 77 to 21. The House version of this supplemental appropriations bill includes a smaller amount for hurricane relief. The President has vowed to veto a bill that exceeds $92.2 billion.
April 27: Education & the Workforce Democrats released a report this week with recommendations on helping educational systems in the Gulf region rebuild, including the appointment of a "recovery czar" in the Department of Education, and removing FEMA from the process.
April 24: Congress reconvenes from its spring recess this week. The Education and the Workforce committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 26 on recovery of Gulf Coast educational institutions.
