Dec 12: The State Department has announced a new competition for grant funds under the Global Connections and Exchange Program. Grantee organizations and their partners will choose overseas schools in Afghanistan and the West Bank to provide services and facilitate partnerships with US schools. Oct 16: The Department of State has announced a request for grant proposals for EducationUSA funds to provide education advising services in Eurasia and Central Asia. June 27: The House Education & Labor subcommittee on higher education will hold a joint hearing with the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on international organizations on Friday, June 29. The topic of the hearing will be "International Students and Visiting Scholars: Trends, Barriers and Implications for American Universities and US Foreign Policy." Dec 14: The GAO has released a new report concerning challenges faced by the US-VISIT program at land ports of entry. Every foriegn visitor to the US, including students and scholars, must pass through the US-VISIT system.
Nov 27: The State Department has announced grants available for the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program, for undergraduate students. Deadline to apply is January 12, 2007.
Nov 20: A delegation of US Department of Education and Department of State officials, along with 12 college presidents, has concluded their goodwill tour of Asia. The goal of the tour was to assure foreign students and education officials that the US still welcomes international students.
Oct 31: The Department of State has announced the availability of funds for intensive foreign language instruction for U.S. students abroad, as part of the National Security Language Initiative. Visit the Federal Register online for details. The application deadline is January 5, 2007.
