Feb 19: The Department of Education is seeking comment on their annual survey on the use of Title II funds under No Child Left Behind. Professional development activities for educators fall under Title II. Visit the Federal Register online for more information. Deadline for comments is March 20.

Oct 17: The Senate HELP Committee has released partial draft legislation to reauthorize No Child Left Behind Act. Stay tuned for details and for news regarding Senate markup of the draft bill.

Sept 19: Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) have introduced the Improving Student Testing Act, a bill to amend the No Child Left Behind Act and reform the way the legislation uses high stakes testing to measure achievement.

Sept 11: The House Committee on Education and Labor has released the remaining titles of the No Child Left Behind Act in discussion draft form. Visit the committee online to view Title II of the draft and Titles III through XI. Comments are due to the Committee on September 14.

Sept 10: The House Committee on Education and Labor will hold a hearing on its discussion draft of Title I of No Child Left Behind. Visit the committee online to view a webcast of the hearing, which begins at 10:00 am and continues until 3:00 pm.

Sept 5: NACAC submitted comments today to the House Committee on Education and Labor on its draft of Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) reauthorization. Title I deals with low-income elementary and secondary schools. NACAC's comments focused on the inclusion of school counselors and academic advising in state report cards, parents' right to know, drop out prevention, and school reform.

June 28: On the House side, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX) will be introducing the House version of the Graduation Promises Act, sponsored by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA), Richard Burr (R-NC), and Jeff Bingaman (D-NM). The GPA Act is the first major high school reform bill to be introduced in both chambers. It will likely serve as the basis for reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, due this year.

April 26: The National Governors' Association (NGA) has submitted joint recommendations on the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, along with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE).

March 29: The National Alliance of Pupil Services Personnel Organizations (NAPSO) submitted recommendations for the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind (aka the Elementary and Secondary Education Act). NAPSO is a coalition of national organizations representing professionals that provide services to students, including NACAC and two other counseling organizations, the American School Counselor Association, and the American Counseling Association.

Jan 29: Congressman Chris VanHollen (D-MD) has introduced the Keep Our PACT Act. This bill would fully fund No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Congressman VanHollen was a featured speaker at NACAC's 2004 Legislative Conference.

Jan 25: Yesterday, Secretary Spellings announced the administration's priorities for the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Congressman George Miller (D-CA), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, issued a response.

Jan 8: Today is the fifth anniversary of No Child Left Behind.

Sept 13: The final regulations for Title I of the ESEA (Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged) were released today.
